Porcelain Veneers

What can a dental veneer achieve?

Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth (usually the upper ones) generally. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact again. The porcelain veneer covers the whole of the front of the tooth with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) is not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

Are my teeth suitable for veneers?

Veneers can be suitable for most adult teeth and many situations such as worn teeth, broken teeth, gappy teeth, crowded teeth, and discoloured teeth. However this would require a full dental assessment before any work could be carried out.

How long will a veneer last?

Veneers should last for many years, the length of time depends on how well they are made and fitted and how well they are looked after by the patient and the dental team.

How long will it take?

A veneer takes at least two visits; the first to prepare the tooth and to match the shade, and the second to fit it. Before bonding it in place, your dentist will show you the veneer on your tooth to make sure you are happy with it. Bonding a veneer in place is done with a special adhesive, which holds it firmly on the tooth.

After years of painful and ineffective dental work that left my mouth in a terrible state, consulting Mr Akhtar in Lytham proved to be the best decision I ever made. His professionalism and precision, combined with Sharon Caro's remarkable restorative work at St Annes Private Dental Centre, completely transformed my mouth. Ten years on, my teeth remain perfect and trouble-free. If you're considering implants, don't hesitate — it will change your life. Paul H

After 20–30 years of grinding my teeth, I was told the damage was irreparable. From my first appointment at St Annes Private Dental Centre, Sharon and Emira provided a clear plan and began treatment within a week. Six months later, the transformation was complete — composites and porcelain caps leaving my teeth looking as they did in my 20s. The whole team were professional, friendly, and welcoming throughout, and for the first time in years, I was genuinely happy to smile at my son's engagement party. I'm extremely grateful for what they've achieved. P Walker
